Welcome!
Welcome to Sealladh A’Cluaidh! (The house name is Scots Gaelic for View of the Clyde). We’re delighted that you’ve chosen our house for your holiday and hope you have a wonderful stay. The house has been in our family since it was built – we still stay here regularly and hope that this means you have everything you might need during your stay. Feel free to use the herbs from the garden or browse our collection of books (though please leave them here when you depart).
James grew up in Whiting Bay, and we spend time here regularly as a family, so we’ve tried to include some top tips in the booklet with suggestions for both adults and children. This booklet also includes all the info you should need to use the appliances etc.
We hope you enjoy your stay!
James and Marie

Important/Useful Information
Smoking Policy
Please note Sealladh a’Chluaidh is a no smoking premises. This includes the decking areas for fire safety.
If you do smoke outside please clean up any cigarette ends before you leave, as a courtesy to other guests and the local wildlife who visit our garden.
Fire Safety
There are fire notices in each bedroom and in this pack listing emergency exits (all exit doors can be opened from inside without a key for your safety). There are also emergency torches in each bedroom for your use in the case of a power cut. Please ensure these stay in place unless needed in an emergency as they are for your safety.
Parking
The driveway for the house has space for 2-3 cars depending on size. If you have additional cars, free parking is available in the square at the bottom of Silverburn Road (the main steep road up the hill to the house). The road leading to the house is used by all our neighbours and sections of it are their property; please don’t park on the road or in a way that blocks anyone else’s drive.
Heating
The heating and hot water are on a timer, set to keep the house a comfortable temperature for you, and to make sure there is enough hot water for a full household to have a shower. If you need to dry wet towels etc when the heating is not on, the towel rails in the bathroom can also be operated via electric switches (the main bathroom switch is in the study on the wall next to the desk, the ensuite switch is on the wall just outside the bathroom). Please do remember to switch these off when no longer needed.

Other things to note:

The coffee machine takes Nespresso pods. The lever won't close once the basket inside is full, so if it won't close after you've been drinking a lot of coffee, that's probably why!

The Bluetooth speaker in the kitchen shows as "Soundcore 3". There's a full manual HERE if needed though you should just need to push the Bluetooth button to enter pairing mode, then connect.

The Dualit toaster has a lever at the front to get toast out - it's not designed to pop up automatically.

Washing / Drying
There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility room for your use.

A laundry basket and pegs are also in the utility room if you would like to make use of the rotary washing line on the front lawn (please note this is taken down in winter / stormy weather).

Please note the tumble dryer is a condensing dryer – please empty the condensing drawer (top left of the machine) after each use – the tumble dryer will not operate if this is full. Please also empty out the fluff from the filter after use so you can continue to use the machine safely.

Study
Please feel free to read the books, though they are family books so please look after them and leave them in the house at the end of the stay.
There are jigsaws and some games for children available on the lower shelves.

Working

There is a 4k monitor with webcam and Bluetooth / USB speaker, all attached to a USB hub which should make it easy to connect your laptop.

The speaker is designed for conference calls, though you can also use it for music via bluetooth

Sitting Room
Television
There's a labelled pair of cables (USB and HDMI) to make it easy to plug in a Firestick or similar .

SoundBar
The Bose Soundbar can be used with the TV, and can also be connected to via Bluetooth ("Bose Solo 5") if you would like to use it for music etc.

Games Console
There is a Nintendo Wii and a selection of games you are welcome to use. If it needs to be switched on look for the grey plug. You can also use the Wii to play DVDs – there is a selection available next to the TV stand.

Please familiarise yourself with these instructions and the fire exits

The house is fitted with mains powered smoke / heat detectors

There are emergency torches in all bedrooms and in the hallway which will automatically switch on if the power is cut to light your way. They can be also taken out of their holders and switched on via the switch on the torch to aid your exit. Please do not remove these torches from their holders other than in an emergency situation – it is important that they remain in place for your safety.
